COURSE / GOLF NEWS

The course opened officially on 24th March with the Captain versus Vice Captain competition. Congratulations go to the Captains side that overall managed to pip the Vice Capt’s team with a 1 hole victory – well done to all who played. This was followed the next day by the Official Opening competition shot-gun start. The weather on both days was fantastic and all who played enjoyed both the weather and the course. With over 30 teams playing on the Sunday the winning team saw Steven & Scott Patterson along with partner Gary Watson lift the Hall Morrice Trophy with a score of 59.8 –well done guys.

It has to be said that the course received nothing but positive feedback from those who played in these events. The overall condition for the start of the season was first class and with the improved weather to come we can surely expect more. Our thanks to all greens staff for their hard work over the winter months.

We hope you enjoy your golf throughout the season.

We would also wish to remind all golfers that practice is not allowed on the course. Offenders will be reported to the management committee.

MESSAGE FROM YOUR CAPTAIN

What a difference from last year, we actually managed to play the two opening competitions on the identified dates. No horrible white stuff, sorry skiers. Both competitions were well attended with the Official opening competition having a considerable waiting list. It is so nice to see the clubhouse busy with all sections of the membership well represented.

The first Management meeting was held on the 12th March, and the Committee structure was agreed as detailed in the March e-news. A copy of the monthly Mgt. minutes is posted on the notice board.

Congratulations to Bob Littlejohn and Bill Heddle on winning the Winter League Knockout and commiserations to the runners –up, Alan Yule and Ally Polson.

May your golfing expectations be realised, but if they don’t relax in the clubhouse and enjoy good company.

The ladies winter prize giving which was held on Friday 23rd March in the clubhouse was a great evening with the ladies from Kippie Lodge Hair and Beauty salon doing a wonderful make -over on Liz Davidson and a Cracking meal from Chris was had by all.

The first ladies competition on Tuesday 27th March went smoothly with  the new swipe cards working well.

JUNIOR NEWS

Despite a number of winning juniors not attending the junior prize-giving followed by a quiz the evening was well received. Senior Champion Maurice Grieve presented the cups trophies and medals.

I’m sure all the juniors are looking forward to the season ahead and for the Junior Pennant Team the year begins with a friendly (in name only!) against the club’s Deeside League Team on 22nd  April. This will be a good opportunity for both juniors and adults to put faces to the names and I’m sure a great days golf will be had by all.

Greetings from Dean,

It's nice to see some faces coming out of the woodwork now that the season is under way.

New in the shop this week, is the Cleveland XL Hi-Bore driver, Ladies and Gents and all the Ping G5 woods, irons and putters.

Also for the Ladies - the new FIVE clothing for 2007 and the new for 2007 Lady Wilson woods, irons & hybrids – pop in ask to have one Ghost Taped and take it for a test drive!

We carry on this week with our features on the importance of fitting and the need to know that just as the shoe needs to fit the foot then so does the golf club need to fit the player.

Enjoy the read
Regards,
Dean

YOU AGREE THE GOLF SWING ISN'T NATURAL

Golf is not an easy game. Do you identify with that comment? Well how about the research that proves that golf is the hardest eye-club/racquet-ball sport (and the ball stays still!) to play. I know you can accept that fact.

The skill, to get the club back around your body and then to unwind / unload and hit a small (I know its stationary) golf ball, getting it airborne, straight toward a target, is a complex one to master. But despite the difficulty over a million of us in the UK try very hard to get it right.

Over 800,000 of those golfers attempt to improve with a club head that has even less chance of returning square to the golf ball because at least two of the following statements are true: their golf shaft is the wrong length, their golf shaft strength is too strong, their lie angle is at least 1° out, their grip size is too small or their golf club is too heavy.

Given the challenge that we have agreed the golf swing presents us with, would it surprise you to know that the HIGHER the handicap the LESS LIKELY a golfer is to have their golf clubs fitted.

Now, how does that work? "If you already find the game difficult then let's make it more difficult". There must be something that I am missing here, but let me test it. If you are over 10 handicap and had a professional fitting before buying your Irons then mail me with what was the result you experienced?

Over 80% of golfers are going to find it harder to square the club head at impact than they should because the club is working against them.

Ping was first to introduce the concept of fitted golf clubs for golfers.

At first this fitting was done for the Ping Pro’s (and the results were spectacular) but they then went on to introduce the concept to golfers of all levels.

The ‘Heel-Toe Weighting revolution’ that aimed to make ball striking easier for the average golfer was introduced first by Ping in 1962 through a special patent.

Ping introduced the heel-toe weighting clubs, which started the game improvement revolution’, in 1969.

Ping fitting was popularised by the Ping colour coding chart for Club Length and Lie Angle fitting.

Custom Fit Procedure:

1. Interview Process Give us a call and arrange an appointment with Dean or Craig, Shop Tel: 734994 or email: mailto:pro@petercultergolfclub.co.uk

2. Static Measurements
Your height and other measurements are used to calculate a starting point.

3. Dynamic Swing Test
A fitter evaluates how your stance and swing affect the position of the clubhead at impact.

4. Ball Flight Observation
Your ball flight tendencies and preferences are important factors in determining the final specifications.

5. Monitor Performance
Since your swing may change over time, periodic evaluations can help keep you playing to your full potential.

 SUMMER IS COMING

Now is a really good time to check out the basics with your equipment.

And my first question to you is:

“Are you playing in bare feet?”

Check out the spikes on your golf shoes. I’ve checked a few around the club and some of you might as well be playing in bare feet.

KEEPING AN EYE
ON YOUR GROOVE

One of the least heralded innovations, which has had the biggest impact on the way that the game is played, is the design of your grooves.

Ping introduced ‘U’ grooves that increased the amount of back spin imparted on the golf ball, even from the rough.

That little innovation has resulted in the emergence of ‘bombers & gougers’, who can attack the pin from the rough (gouge) after a wild shot from tee (bomb).

The USGA equipment rules team is now attempting to close down the way that the grooves are designed and introducing restrictions (as they have done with head sizes, COR and MOI).

Re-gripping service.

Ditch those sliders!

Get A Grip!!

The start of the new golfing season is the time to have a look at the grips on your clubs. Have the grips become slippery and hard over the winter months? And more importantly are they the correct thickness to allow you to grip the club properly. Your hands are your only contact with the club so the grip must match the size of your hand to allow you to keep the ball on target.

Before re-gripping we will check that your grips match your hand size.
