Greens Aeration Programme 2008

 

 

Members please note below the following aeration programme for 2008.

The list details the programme for this year along with an explanation from Paul Sharp, PGC Head Greenkeeper.

March 3rd : Verti-Drain 13mm Solid Tines

 

March 17th: Micro Core 6mm Hollow Tines

 

April 14th: Verti-Drain 13mm Solid Tines

 

May 19th  : Aerocore 10mm Solid Tines

 

June 9th : Verti-Drain 8mm Solid Tines

 

July 14th: Verti-Drain 13mm Solid Tines

 

August 18th  : Aerocore 10 Solid tines.

 

September 29th : Aerocore 15mm Hollow Tines.

 

October 27th  : Verti-Drain 13mm Solid Tines with Heave.

 

Beginning of December Verti-Drain 19mm Solid Tines with full heave.

 

 

                                                                                                                                          

 

All the above aeration will be started on the date shown and will take no longer than two days. There will be minimal disturbance to the playing surface with exception to the hollow coring, which is carried out before and after the main playing season. Top dressing will be applied after each procedure to aid in the recovery and to keep the greens firm and true.

 

Aeration is carried out on the golf course to maintain the surfaces to the best possible standard and relieve the compaction created by all the traffic.

Aeration is vital for the surface drainage, root development and reduction of the thatch layer. It will also contribute to the breakdown of the black layer, which has accumulated in the soil profile over time.

Aeration is also vital to the reduction of disease outbreaks, which are becoming all too common due to climate change.
