MESSAGE FROM YOUR CAPTAIN

This being the final Newsletter of 2007 may I wish all members and staff a Merry Christmas and Good New Year

The weather today is white, crisp and clear with a real hint of winter in the air, long may it continue.

The Winter program this year is once again dependant on the weather, the major items are, forming a new path from the 8th to the Dormy house, gent’s 15th tee extension, bunker and surround maintenance, and all the other normal winter program items. The wall round the putting green is now well underway and the dry stone dyke at the 8th will be reinstated before the spring.

The replacement Green keepers shed will be erected at the beginning of the year, once again weather permitting.

A small committee has been convened to move the clubhouse extension forward; their remit will be to ensure that the club and all its members will benefit from any improvements and that we can justify the long-term financial commitment.

Financially the club has had a very good year, having moved from a considerable annual overdraft situation 6 to7 years ago, we now operate for the majority of the year “in the black” a sure indication that we have a excellent product and the right staff.

The club has been indebted over the years to a number of members for organising the various social events, which are essential to the club, in particular, Babs Lappin and Susan Chappell Smith, thank you ladies.  To continue this important facet of the club we are looking for a new social convenor, or group of individuals who are willing to take on this role.  If you are interested please contact Dean for further information.

Bill Morrison,

PGC Captain.

REQUEST FROM YOUR GREENKEEPERS

Could all golfers please continue to respect the use of winter mats on the fairways? One or two golfers have tried to bend the rules during bounce games and have been advised by the greens staff.

We don’t make these rules to annoy people, we make them because we care about protecting your golf course and producing a quality product when it counts, and that is during the main playing season.

LADIES NEWS

Babs Lappin

Lady Captain

SOCIAL EVENTS

As mentioned in the “Message from your Captain” section we are in need of a Social Convenor, or Social Committee.  Most social events take place in the winter months although forward planning and pre-booking entertainment etc. is required.  If you feel you have something to offer and would like assist the Club in this rewarding role please contact Dean for more information.  We would like to stress that this role does not involve a commitment to join the main Management Committee as it has been done independently in the past and can be done so again.
