Thanks to all those who assisted on the day from the caddies to the referees
et all. And a special thank you to our Head Greenkeeper Paul Sharp & his
staff who spent 4 hours setting up the course prior to tee off in the
dreadful conditions so that we could get all the matches played – many
thanks. Congratulations to all who took part in this
years finals day – despite the weather!!! |
MESSAGE FROM YOUR CAPTAIN The season is now well underway; I just wish the weather would improve although they do say July and August will be better. The course is improving day by day and is now in very good condition thanks to the efforts of our green keeping staff led by Paul Sharpe. The greens in particular came in for some early criticism; this was due to a number of reasons which were fully explained on the club notice board. A STRI advisory visit is due on the 25th July and we are confident that they will confirm that the measures taken by Paul and his predecessor Colin are reducing the thatch and therefore improving the general long term condition of the greens. The Club Championship finals were played on the 3rd of June despite the appalling weather, all the finalists deserve a medal, referees a free umbrella for the rest of there membership and the spectators their sanity verified. Congratulations to the worthy winners and thanks to Paul and his team for getting the course in an eminently playable condition. The non replacement of divots is again causing concern, please replace all your, and any other divot on the fairways and the rough, it not only speeds recovery but also improves the general appearance of the course. Two young members have now been employed to assist the green keeping staff over the summer months; part of their duties will be seeding divot marks. Again we have been
struck by the phantom practicer. This golfer seems to think that to improve
his/her game he/she must hit a number of shots to a green from about wedge
distance. Evidence of this practice is quite clear on the 5th and
other fairways. Be assured, who ever you are, you will be caught and will
suffer immediate suspension from the club. Bill Morrison PGC Captain. |

JUNIOR NEWS The Pennant League first round was completed this month but the
team had no luck in qualifying. This year we were unable to field our
strongest players in a number of matches due to participation in other sports
and some now at an age where earning money takes priority which is
understandable. Apart from that we went to the lions den of Hazlehead (last
years overall winners) and away to formidable opponents Inchmarlo. Apart from
that they had a great 6 - 0 win over Alford and 2 wins and 3 defeats was a
respectable campaign. I have been asked to highlight regular team player
Master Stewart never lost in any of his matches this season so well done to
Calum ! I would also like to mention Scott Bragg who came in at the
last minute and put up a great show with young Michael Carrell to win their
match 7 & 6 against Oldmeldrum. The Junior Scratch and Handicap Club Championship threw up a few
surprises this year and Ross Yule upset the bookies with a fine win against
Andrew Carrell and Scott Patterson beat odds-on favourite Andrew Dingwall.
The latter again did the juniors proud again this year by reaching the adult
Club Championship Scratch final. The Junior Handicap KO Final was
one of the best for years and only one hole separated these two stars of the
future with Gavin Buchan just getting home ahead of early leader Tom Brawley. 2007 Hot Doggers are still as keen as mustard and the talent gets
better and better with around 40 completing on-course training in mid June.
They thoroughly enjoyed the experience and can’t wait for a repeat with
some ready to go head-to-head against some of the regular Monday medal
players. Regards, Frank
