GENERAL INFO FOR ALL MEMBERS

MESSAGE FROM YOUR CAPTAIN:

"It is early in the season and already the Club has received a number of complaints from Members concerning "slow play" on the course. Horror stories about 5 hour rounds are not uncommon.

This is not acceptable and Members must be reminded to keep up with play at all times. If for whatever reason a group falls behind then it is only common courtesy to let through the following group if they are being delayed. It is simple course etiquette to allow others to play through.

The Management Committee has been reluctant to use a Course Ranger but it will become an inevitability if this problem associated with slow play continues.

For the sake of all your fellow members avoid slow play and remember your course etiquette."

MESSAGES FROM YOUR CLUB MANAGER:

Ø      Slow Play: Once again this seemingly annual problem rears its head on the course. There are signs on course which remind players as to their need to not only keep up with the group in front but also ahead of the group behind, there is nothing more frustrating than being held up during a round of golf, REMEMBER the etiquette of this great game allows all golfers to respect other players by simply inviting a faster playing group from behind to play through, this way you will help to not only keep play flowing but to take the pressure off your own game by looking over your shoulder every 2 holes! Also if you think that your ball may be lost SIMPLY play a provisional, and REMEMBER you are only allowed 5 MINUTES to search for a lost ball!

Ø      European Tour Guidelines states:   For the first player teeing off in a group, 40 seconds is a long time to play a golf shot however this timing is more than sufficient to tee up and tee off, all other players in the group thereafter need  NOT  take any longer than 40 seconds per player.  Tour Guidelines also state the following timings for a 3 BALL GROUP playing golf: Par 3: 11 minutes from teeing off to holing out, Par 4: 14 minutes & Par 5: 17 minutes. At Club level we do not need 4 practise swings before every shot, line up from all the angles or “plumb- bob” our tee shots!

Ø      ETIQUETTE REMINDER: BUNKERS & PITCH MARKS when playing from a bunker PLEASE remember to rake up after your shot and place the rake back into the bunker. This simple rule of the game will not only help keep your course looking tidy but will also help to keep the bunkers from becoming an eye sore: LEAVE THE BUNKER AS YOU WOULD EXPECT TO FIND IT – THANK YOU.     PITCH MARKS: Yet again the problem of unrepaired pitch marks has returned. We all make pitch marks when our ball lands on the green, please take the little time needed to repair yours and one other. HELP KEEP YOUR GREENS FREE FROM PITCH MARKS – THANK YOU.

Ø      New Speed Signs: There are now 15mph signs located on both the road up to the Golf Club as well as on the exit road. Please take your time when driving too and from the club as there are members who use these roads by walking to and from the Club particularly the junior members.

Ø      WHATS ON COURSE? Check your notice boards when up at the Club, the main board in the hall way as well as the notice board outside the Pro Shop all detail important information including a what’s on course list for the current month – plan ahead check your board.

Ø       PRO CEL AM: Make a diary note for Saturday 24th July for the 2004 Aberdeen Petroleum Club Pro Am which is being played this year at Peterculter. Come along and view some of the top PGA Professionals from the Tartan Tour, as well as some well kent local faces!
